I HAVE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

Why did my doctor prescribe more than one blood pressure lowering drug?

Clinical trials have shown that all of the different classes of antihypertensive drugs are roughly equivalent in their ability to reduce blood pressure, and any single agent can reduce blood pressure by about 7 or 8%. However, because most people require larger reductions to reach a safe blood pressure level, more than one drug is often
required. This is often called combination therapy. The choice of drug or drugs depends very much on the individual person. It is critically important that you remember to take these drugs as directed by your doctor for them to work properly.
